The Humanities Center promotes innovative scholarship and teaching in areas pertaining to the language, literature, thought, culture, and history of the human conversation. Its objectives are to

  • create a vital intellectual environment through the sponsorship of lectures, symposia, seminars, workshops, and other gatherings involving BYU faculty, students, and distinguished visitors
  • foster excellence in scholarship and teaching within and across disciplines through research groups, fellowships, professional development leaves, and course design
  • encourage discussion and collaboration across departments, colleges, and universities on matters of public as well as academic concern that bear upon the Center’s core mission
  • enhance BYU’s global reputation for scholarship, teaching, and public service
