Paul Westover will present for the Humanities Center’s Colloquium on Thursday, February 23rd at 3:00 PM in 4010 JFSB. Dr. Westover will share some of the principal ideas behind his recent edited collection, Transatlantic Literature and Author Love in the Nineteenth Century (2016). These include arguments for the importance of recovering (a) readers’ emotional engagements with books and authors, (b) reception geographies driven by those engagements rather than by strictly national imperatives, and (c) historical understandings of Anglophone “literature” that included its messy, dynamic involvements with material culture and social life.
