Film and Media Study Group

The film (and media studies) research group is hosting Michael Baskett, associate professor of film and media studies at Kansas University whose research interests include East Asian film, Transnational and diasporic cinemas, early world cinema, and colonial film culture. Professor Baskett will be here to give a public lecture as well as participate in a special question and answer session with faculty.

 

The session with the faculty will be at on the topic “Where Governments Have Failed: The Politics of The Southeast Asian Film Festival.” (Anyone interested in this can contact Chip Oscarson (oscarson@byu.edu) to get a copy of the reading we will discuss.) Friday, 11:00 in JFSB 4010.

 

“Beyond Bond? Ideology and Historicality in Cold War Japanese Spy Films.” We encourage faculty to invite any students they feel would be interested in the topic to attend. Friday, at 3:00 in B092 JFSB
