Mission Statement

The Humanities Center promotes innovative scholarship and teaching in areas pertaining to the language, literature, thought, culture, and history of the human conversation. Its objectives are to

create a vital intellectual environment through the sponsorship of lectures, symposia, seminars, workshops, and other gatherings involving BYU faculty, students, and distinguished visitors
foster excellence in scholarship and teaching within and across disciplines through research groups, fellowships, professional development leaves, and course design
encourage discussion and collaboration across departments, colleges, and universities on matters of public as well as academic concern that bear upon the Center’s core mission
enhance BYU’s global reputation for scholarship, teaching, and public service
