The Humanities Center is pleased to welcome Mark Eaton and Matthew Smith from Azusa Pacific University. Mark is the editor of Christianity and Literature and Matthew is one of his associate editors. They will be talking with BYU’s Kimberly Johnson (English Department) about a special issue of that journal Kim has recently edited (titled “Poetics/Praxis”). At our colloquium on Thursday, May 16, at 3:00 PM in 4010 JFSB, Kim, Mark, and Matthew will discuss the state of the field as it pertains to religion and literature and also the impetus and purpose of the journal issue that Kim edited.

Two events will also be held on Friday, May 17:

  • On Friday, at 11:00 AM in 4010 JFSB, Matt Smith will present some of his current work to our Medieval and Renaissance Studies research group (MARS) – Lunch will follow this conversation.
  • A little later on Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM in 4101 JFSB, Mark Eaton will discuss the introduction to his forthcoming book Religion and America since 1950 with our Theology and Humanities research group.
