Heather Belnap, Comparative Arts & Letters, will present for the Humanities Center’s weekly colloquium on Thursday, March, 8th. The presentation will be held at 3:00 PM in room 4010 JFSB.

Title: “Representations of Violence Against Women in Restoration France”

In this presentation, Dr. Belnap will introduce her book-length study of imagery related to the sexual harassment and assault, rape, murder, and suicide of women in Restoration France (c. 1815-1830). Through analysis of selected episodes of violence against women, as represented in popular prints and paintings, she intends to reveal the processes–long and still–at work in the reproduction and legitimization of such acts by means of visual culture.

Refreshments will be served.
