Title: “Clement Petitions: Translating Marot’s Verse Epistles as Critical Biography”

‘As I complete my critical edition/translation of Clément Marot’s Verse Epistles (for ACMRS Press), my hopes are that the volume will stand simultaneously as an English-language cultural biography of the poet while fulfilling its primary objective of introducing some of his most personal, playful, encomiastic and quintessential verse to an Anglophone audience (for the first time for the vast majority of poems). In this presentation, I will draw from my translations to demonstrate and examine some of the challenges of maintaining meter and rhyming couplets in English while remaining true to Marotic virtuoso word games and adherence to the genus humile implicit in the genre.’
