Title: “Leader Identity Trajectories at West Point: Understanding How Generalized Leader Identities Evolve and are Enacted in New Contexts”
Leadership scholars have spent significant efforts exploring the construct of leader identity. Notwithstanding these many efforts, there is a still a limited understanding of how the leader identity that is developed during one’s formative years evolves and is enacted upon entering a new organization. In this presentation, I will explore key factors that have helped West Point cadets form a generalized leader identity growing up, and then elucidate how the West Point experience influenced their enactment of that identity as cadets.
