MARS is pleased to help co-sponsor the visit of Daniel E. Christian, 2017 recipient of the Dante Society of America’s Durling Prize, who will speak to faculty and students on “Becoming Who We Are: Dante’s Divine Comedy and the Journey to Wholeness” [flyer attached]. In fact, Lingua Romana, BYU’s in-house academic journal of French, Italian and Romanian Studies recently inaugurated an annual section on “Outreach/Public Humanities” featuring three reflective articles by Dan Christian on Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise, which I highly recommend. Dan’s talk will take place on Thurs, 11 Oct @ 2pm in B192 JFSB (Education in Zion Theatre).

For those MARS members who teach or have interest in Dante, Dan will also be guest-lecturing in Jennifer Haraguchi’s “Dante’s Divine Comedy” senior seminar on Friday, 12 Oct @ noon in 1101 JKB. The topic will be “Introducing Purgatorio.” (While the lecture is certainly open to students, this invitation is for faculty only.) Please come and help us welcome and celebrate the career of this fine scholar.
