This week’s Humanities Center event features a roundtable discussion on AI’s role in academic research and its impact on scholarly practices. Join us for this timely conversation on Thursday, March 12, at 3:30 p.m. in 4010 JFSB.
Title: Exploring AI’s Role in Academic Research
There is no question that the advent of LLMs and Generative AI has deeply impacted both student learning and our pedagogical practices. The BYU College of Humanities has responded to this changing educational landscape by developing guidelines to help faculty think through the ways that new technological tools might contribute to our students’ learning experiences. (These guidelines can be reviewed here). We have devoted much less attention, however, to the ways that Generative AI may or may not be contributing to the scholarship we produce. This roundtable will report on the activities of an ad hoc committee convened by the college to consider both the production and assessment of scholarship in the age of AI.
