MARS (Medieval and Renaissance Studies) group is hosting a lecture with Jonathan Davis-Secord on October 9, from 11:00 – 12:00 PM in room B094 JFSB. His presentation is titled, “Anglo-Saxon Slo-Mo: Narrating Violence in Beowulf,”.
Jon is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of New Mexico. He is an Anglo-Saxonist specializing on the interaction of language and culture. His current work focuses on the ways in which texts use linguistic minutia to react to and influence their cultural contexts, whether historical, political, religious, generic, or musical. His book Joinings: Compound Words in Old English Literature is forthcoming from the University of Toronto Press.
